Modern Tactics 4 Update
So I have been extremely busy with school work, I had to make 5 games in less than a month!
I have made big changes to MT4 listed below.
Select which soldier you like to move.
Soldiers stay on the ground when dead and can be revived.
Jamming happens less often.
Guns are more powerful.
Grenades, crouch, side arms, aim, mend, knife, throwing knife and more are new abilities.
I don't know when Modern Tactics 4 will be complete because I am taking my time on this one. Stay patient and the game will be amazing!

Looking good, but the enemy AI wants to heal me whenever I get close. And I think it revived one guy and then both of the last two stopped working

It only lets me have 1 turn and then the enemy goes on an endless cycle of move then shoot, move then shoot, move then shoot.....

Looking good. I like how the bodies dont dissapear right away and the soldiers actually aim at what they are shooting. It looks like it will turn out to be good game.

I have been experiencing he worst glitch possible... I made one turn, and then the enemies just had like unlimited turns, i think that should be fixed. i also think enemy AI are too smart, hope you bring back difficulties sometime. Also, the enemy seem like they are more accurate than me. I shot at a enemy and only 1 shot hit. Then, that enemy shot at me at the same range, and hit me with 3 bullets.....

nice lautan. it's looking really good, and the bug in the demo i think has to do with if you kill an enemy during your turn. the first time i played i moved then the AI moved and killed one of my guys so the game let them move and shoot without giving me my turn. then in the next game i got the first kill and i was able to endlessly move and shoot my team. as long as i got a kill during my turn. i think thats how the bug works...

Ok I just copied and pasted from the home page here, and everything but #5 is in the Demo, except for the mending part. If you did say you added those abilities... where are they?

I don't really like how the interface is above everyone's head and you have to have your mouse over the guy to check it. I like how it was in the lower left/right corner. I always seem to forget if I have to reload. That's one of the concerns I've been having from the start. No one else mentioned it so, I thought it would be fine, but now it just bugs me =/
BTW, You know how there is supposed to be a hostage objective? (One of the types of objectives Lautan mentioned) The hostages should be girls! Or have a medic-type objective and let the medic be a nurse! But if that's too much to ask.. then just forget about it lol, but nice job keeping up with the game and your work Lautan!

Well I thought it would be rather interesting to see a girl in the games, than just a bunch of guys every time, just to spice it up a bit. Or if you add girls indefinitely, you can make it so that they are the only ones to mend, but have a little less accuracy/damage or something. Just a suggestion, kind of like the vehicle thing here, probably not going to happen =P

When I played it and I went up to the enemy, they tried to "mend" and heal my dudes. I suppose you got that wrong Lautan, isn't it supposed to be knifing, not mending? Also, where is the knife? C'mon the knife I reckon is most powerful and useful weapon in close combat for MT series.

I didn't want to sound sexist lol, I just wanted it so that the Mend ablity could be unique so that only girls could have it, but then the guys wouldn't have it.. so we would decrease the accuracy or damage a little bit.. Or just forget all that, and have both girls and guys have the mend ablity and no stat decreases. OR... Forget EVERTHING about what I said about adding girls. Just thought it would be nice to have some variety ^_^ I can tell this would be another argument or something lol

I thought that since it is squad type tactics, it would be good if there was a squad leader. They could wield a XM29 or a similar type of weapon and have a different uniform to distinguish them from the rest. I always did that in MT3 to give it some of the realistic feeling.

What would be cool would be to add 2 story buildings, giving it kinda like a pretty cool environment effect, and you can go in, but that would be pretty hard. And then whenever your mouse is on the building you see through it.

Another thing, if your thinking of doing perks and customizable squad, make sure you think about your perks... I don't want one super set of perks.
Same to weapons, I don't want one super weapon that has crazy accuracy, and power. Maybe different jamming probabilities for different weapons. And then, as that squad members uses that gun more frequently, the accuracy of the gun would increase a little, because he gets used to the recoil.

Good update, I just have some suggestions. If a unit cannot fire effectively on a turn, there could be a "lay in wait" option, where if an enemy moves into range on the enemy's turn, the unit fires at him automatically (only once per round). I find it really pathetic that I move a unit in to the perfect ambushing position, only to have the enemy waltz up and pulverize him while he sits there. Also, I understand the need for game balance, but truly, why do these guns have short ranges? If one of these soldiers kicked in my bedroom door, they wouldn't be able to hit the opposing wall. I doubt this will change, just a thought. Lastly, I would like if my soldiers could shoot around corners.

panda, shoting around corners makes MT games stupid. idk about singleplayer, but MTO kinda sucked until shoting around corners was removed. and good player using "lay in wait" option would destroy AI in a few turns; it would make game unbalanced. also, gun ranges are almost perfect now...

gun ranges are good, except i think that snipers should have unlimited, cuz thats more realistic. all the other guns are fine. also, you should be able to shoot around a corner if you are 1 tile away. like blindfire. you can shoot around corners but with lower accuracy

what do you guys mean when you say 1 tile? do you mean 1 tile away from the wall? because i think that should only be aloud to shoot around a wall if you are right next to a corner, you peek around, take a couple shots and then back into original position. that way you can get a position where you can shoot the enemy without exposing yourself to them, which is something i have disliked about the past games.
I like the stuff you put down epic, one thing i really want to see is turrets, i have really missed those in the recent games. i agree with everything you said, but you have to clear up the corner shot, i dont really understand what you mean by 1 tile...

the way i mean 1 tile is right up against the wall, not 1 tile between you and the wall(like maybe some think). and blindfire wouldnt be such a huge advantage because you would get decreased accuracy and you can still be exposed to grenades, like flashbang, so the AI can stun you there and then kill you. so its not really such a giant advantage

can we bring this back to my idea about 5 updates ago about a "tactical move", were you can move say 6 spaces, shoot, then move 1-3 spaces after you shoot, i think thats easier because it would be almost impossible to make the computer read corners with a map editor, idk how to explain it really but i mean the computer would read all walls as corners so you would have the option to blindfire even when it's not a corner.

I meant beside a corner when I spoke about shooting around walls. Currently, the gameplay is just charge forward and don't jam. Cover and positioning should be essential and fluid. Just thoughts.

heres an idea but it is alot different than other MT games, ok how about you can put soldiers in either an attack mode or a sprint mode.
Attack mode: don't move as far but will shoot at enemies that run by on their turn
Sprint mode: move an extra 3-4 spaces or something like that

You guys basically want no tactics. Part of the game is timing your turns so that you run around the corner at the right moment to shoot him

dude i made that situation for when you end up in the situation, it would help if the AI ending taking out most of your guys and you only have one left. and its not like you would HAVE to shoot around a corner. and i would only want it if the AI had it, that way you would have to find a way to advance on the enemy. there were levels in MT3 where you had to defend a base and i sure wished i had that tactic.and who is going to shoot for you besides your men???

What I mean is, you could simply tell your men to autoshoot down a hallway. Then the AI stupidly walks into your FoV and gets wasted by three guys. All you would have to do is get a choke point and click the skip turn button
And if corner shots were added the same thing would happen, only worse. One guy on a corner would be invincible unless you were at the edge of the same corner (because like you said, it only works when you're standing next to it)

well i disagree with the auto shoot, i dont want that either. but like spartan said about the corner shots, you could get into old western fights and maybe your chance of getting hit could be higher then 10%, maybe 30 instead.

tile based games are pretty slow already. shoting around corners or western style gunfights would make the game even slower. lautan tries to do oposite thing - make MT4 much more faster game. and he does the right thing

Anyway.
I don't see how using a choke point is NOT a tactic. Currently, the game plays kinda like chess. You position your self in such a way that the moment the opponent takes the wrong step, you spring in to action to achieve victory. Unfortunately, this is not the best representation of modern close quarters combat. Positioning, cover, and line of sight should be deciding factors. Now, i agree that if the maps remain the standard size they have been, then shooting around corners may interfere with game balance. Now, with larger maps and a more realistic take of "Fog of War" you could see that a choke point could become a death trap. Not knowing where your enemy is coming from would make it more risky to line up your men at a corner and point at one hallway.
Also, I'd like to emphasis what I mean by cover. I think if you have a unit right on a corner (assuming he is allowed to fire around that corner) then he is also in danger of being shot. Since he has a solid wall and only 1/3 of his body being revealed to fire, he'd have less chance of being hit then someone walking through an open hallway. I think cover ratings would make the MT series outstanding. Personally, I enjoyed the accuracy penalty in MT3 when firing against an opponent that is prone or crouched.
Now, as to the open scenario creator that Lautan provides, I can see how juggling cover ratings can be very difficult. In addition, I accept that many people appreciate the fast-paced style that is currently being attempted. Considering we, as a whole, are Lautan's target audience for this game, maybe I'm the minority. If that's the case, then so be it. Please the masses, Lautan. However, I do ask that the run-and-gun players consider my thoughts and provide criticism from there point of view.
I don't see how using a choke point is NOT a tactic. Currently, the game plays kinda like chess. You position your self in such a way that the moment the opponent takes the wrong step, you spring in to action to achieve victory. Unfortunately, this is not the best representation of modern close quarters combat. Positioning, cover, and line of sight should be deciding factors. Now, i agree that if the maps remain the standard size they have been, then shooting around corners may interfere with game balance. Now, with larger maps and a more realistic take of "Fog of War" you could see that a choke point could become a death trap. Not knowing where your enemy is coming from would make it more risky to line up your men at a corner and point at one hallway.
Also, I'd like to emphasis what I mean by cover. I think if you have a unit right on a corner (assuming he is allowed to fire around that corner) then he is also in danger of being shot. Since he has a solid wall and only 1/3 of his body being revealed to fire, he'd have less chance of being hit then someone walking through an open hallway. I think cover ratings would make the MT series outstanding. Personally, I enjoyed the accuracy penalty in MT3 when firing against an opponent that is prone or crouched.
Now, as to the open scenario creator that Lautan provides, I can see how juggling cover ratings can be very difficult. In addition, I accept that many people appreciate the fast-paced style that is currently being attempted. lol I agree with SadPanda fog of war would be pretty sick, and the accuracy penalty too.
To add to SadPanda's idea of cover, what about crouching behind a window or being prone behind a window? That should be at least hard to hit when crouching, and impossible in prone, unless up against the window.
How about bipods? The ability to aim with more accuracy when beside cover, or on a window.

also, FOW would be great, but even lautan said that it game would be boring and its pretty difficult to add FOW. sad, but there will be no FOW in singleplayer game ever...
and cover idea was fully working in MTO (cover bonus when hiding behind boxes, windows etc). system worked really well and it should be added to mt4

I think that hiding behind walls should be more effective in general. I haven't played the mt4 demo much, so I'm not positive that it's still a problem, but when I'm behind a wall in MT3, the enemy out in the open can shoot me before I can shoot him. If anything, the guy hiding by the wall should be able to fire first.
