Change to class customization
So I have been thinking about simplifying class creation for new players and a great idea struck me. Its quite simple all classes in WW2 Tactics will be pre-made and they will be unlocked at a certain level.
Players will no longer select a gun, grenade etc and create a class. But they will simply select a class already in game. A class could be US Infantry and that soldier will have a m16, frag, and will be unlocked at level 5. An other class could be SAS Infantry, holds mp5, two flash bangs, and so on.
One last thing, people are confused about the no campaign decision. WW2 Tactics will not have a campaign but it will have scenarios. Each scenario will have a goal and a reward when completed.
If anyone is confused please let me know.

Server Back on Soon

I will be turning on the MTO server in about a week from now. But I will not be updating the game at all. I'm planning on remaking the entire game after WW2 Tactics. So just sit tight for now.

Update Time
Snowball tactics has been canceled i'm now working on ww2 Tactics. Theres not much to say, I will post some screenshots when I can.
Power weapons will be added to maps, such as a sniper rifle or shotgun. These weapons will not be unlockable, you can only pick them up on maps. Some changes to grenades will be made, health regeneration will be lower.
This is the biggest change, there will be no campaign, only scenarios in free mode. I don't want to waste my time making maps when you could be making them. So I will be posting a map editor for WW2 Tactics, make some maps and submit them to me. I will pick the best ones and put them in the full game.

Thank You Guys!
I'm way behind on this but TTP is now two years old. I'll like to thank you guys for joining the forum, and really making this a successful studio/site. You know I originally created these games because I was bored in high school. When I found out you could post these games on sites and get paid for it, that completely changed everything.
I now create some of the only tactics games on the internet. In fact if you search for tactical rpg on google Modern Tactics will come up as the first game.
Anyway, if everything goes well I might actually start an official game studio and make games on Xbox arcade and Playstation network. That will happen maybe next year. I'll get some friends to help out and maybe one day this will be a well known studio.
One last thing, I'm hearing a lot of complaints about my recent progress on projects. I'm working hard on the projects right now, they will be completed, I promise. I might get the MTO server started again too, maybe a week from now.

The Director
A great new addition is being added to all my new tactics games and its called the Director. The Director handles the flow of the game, mainly the artifical intelligence. The games will no longer have selectable difficulties but the game's difficulty will change depending on the players skill level.
I'll give an example. Say your playing a game and you completely destroy the bots. Then the bots strategy might change, unexpected reinforcements arrive, maybe even a morter strike and whatever else I can think of. This will bring suprises and spice up the game. Creating something fresh each game. This can go both ways, against you or to help you.
I should also note, bots in new TTP games will carry out strategies and each unit will have their own tactics. Such as flanking, defending, attacking, or objective based moves.
One last thing, the AI in each TTP game will be improved upon. I'm now reusing the AI in each game and improving it, in other words. I'll experiment will different stuff to see what works best.

A New Game Before WW2 Tactics?
So I have been working on the Tactics Engine for sometime now and I have just realized creating a game like WW2 Tactics takes a long time to program, I almost have 4000 lines of code atm. Now i'm asking you guys, if you want a small new game to keep you guys busy while I work on WW2 Tactics.
Creating this small game will help in creating WW2 Tactics and I will be creating a test game to fix glitches in the Tactics Engine anyway. So you really have nothing to lose.
I was thinking about a simple snowball fight game. It'll be very simple with only two commands, move and throw, maybe interact for tackling. It won't have any customization or an editor but it will have a random map generator, so you`ll never play the same map twice. (This could be used in WW2 Tactics)
This will allow me to create snow tiles, which can be reused in other games and a snow ball kid, which could be added in WW2 Tactics as an unlockable.
Tell me what you think or give me a tactics game idea, with only three actions, move, throw and interact.

Update May 27, 2009
Sorry I haven't updated in a while. So at this point, the Tactics Engine is about half done. Just a couple days more and i'll be able to work on WW2 Tactics.
I have been slacking off the last couple days but now some big progress is going to be done. I'll do my best to show some new pictures of ww2 tactics on the weekend.
One last thing, the wait is completely worth it. This is the slowest part in game making, once this is done you could have a new game every two weeks.
Edit: I forgot to mention some changes to the game. Smoke no longer gives an evasion boost, but it now gives armour for a couple turns. Weapons are pick up able, rocket launchers could be added and so can mounted machine guns.

Destroyable Objects on Map
So i'm working on the Tactics Engine from the ground up. Right now i'm working on the basic map and I have some new features to tell you guys about.
In the editor you'll now be able to place objects on map, such as tables, doors, machine guns, ammo crates etc.. Without a tile being attached to it. In game units will be able to interact with the object, such as attack it or use it. Some objects could even add status effects to units, such as fire or stun.
Thats all I have right now, i'll be working on the units and game later in the week.

Update
So currently i'm rewriting the tactics engine, its like a bunch of code I can reuse in all my tactics games. Once i'm done that I can quickly make new tactics games. The number of bugs will be reduced to nothing. You guys just have to bare with me right now. This is the longest process in video game development.
As I was writting the engine, I have come across some cool features I could add in new tactics games.
Create custom weapons, perks, grenades and status effects.
Interactive environment, breakable doors, creates.
Multiple game saves.
Custom tiles.
Ai controlled team mates.
I'm writing hundreds of lines a day, so please be paitent.
